Organic gardeners and horticultural professionals know that one of the secrets to having great lawns and gardens is having great soil. And that means a porous, well aerated soil where roots can grow deeply and where biolife can thrive.
Compacted soils cause unhealthy plants, lawns and trees. They stay soggy when wet, and turn rock hard when they dry out in the summer. When soils are "tight", necessary air, water and nutrients can not move through the soil. Disease occurs. Roots are stunted. Beneficial micro-organisms can't survive. Plants are stressed and weakened. When you are doing everything else right, soil compaction will ruin all your efforts.

AERIFY! is a soil penetrant that breaks apart tightly bonded clay particles. This creates "space" in the soil, allowing roots, water and oxygen to permeate. Once you get oxygen into a clay soil, beneficial microbes will be able to survive. These microbes are needed to turn old roots and organic matter into all-important humus. Once you have humus, you'll have much better soil quality and structure. Aerify! relieves compaction, helps create humus, and brings about the aerated, living soil that all gardeners love to have.
If your organic fertilizers, composts, teas, humates, enzymes and other soil improvement products are not working as well as you think they should, it is probably because these products require a minimal amount of soil aeration in order to do their job. Get some AERIFY! in the soil and see the difference it makes.
Aerify! is economical and easy to use. It is also a full strength, concentrated product. One quart of Aerify! covers up to 32,000 square feet of lawn or garden. Aerify! can also be mixed with most liquid fertilizers or soil amendments. (Do a jar test first to assure compatibility.)
What can you expect? If you have decent topsoil that has become compacted, Aerify! should penetrate to a depth of about 1 foot with your first application. Each succeeding application should give deeper penetration. For poorer topsoils with more clay content (normally hard when dry and somewhat sticky when wet), do a follow up application 1-2 weeks after the intial application is watered in. You can also mix in our Nature’s Soil Activator to speed up you soil's regeneration. We suggest applying Aerify! every 3 months after that. When you soil has improved, 1 or 2 applications a year should be sufficient.
If you don't have 4 inches or more of topsoil, but instead are dealing with mostly pure clay or subsoil, you will get the best soil improvement by more frequent application of Aerify! After your initial applications, apply again every 4-5 weeks at half or full strength. This will keep the clay opened up and will allow roots to penetrate and soil building microbes to survive. You can also apply Aerify at a higher rate (2 to 4 times heavier) for severe situations. Again, using our Nature's Soil Activator will help speed up the soil's improvement, but heavy organic fertilizing, mulching beds and leaving clippings on lawns will also help a lot.

Application Rates
FOR LAWNS,GARDENS,TREES,SHRUBS,GREENS: Use 1 ounce Aerify! in one or more gallons of water per 1000 sq.ft. Water into the soil for best results. Apply with a hose-end sprayer, pump sprayer or any commercial sprayer. Apply spring and fall for general maintenance, or every three months for faster soil improvement.
FOR SEVERE COMPACTION OR HIGHER CLAY CONTENT SOILS: Apply at 2 oz per 1,000 sf. Do a follow up application 1-2 weeks after the initial application is watered in. Repeat applications every 2-3 months are suggested until the soil has improved to your satisfaction.
Mechanical Aeration vs. Aerify
Aerating machines only penetrate a couple of inches into the root zone. Even less on bumpy or thatchy lawns. Aerify! will penetrate about a foot, and go right through thatch. Additional applications will penetrate even deeper.
Aerating machines poke holes about 6 inches apart. They do not structurally change the soil. Aerify! covers 100% of the soil and it actually breaks up the bonds that hold clay particles together.
Aerating machines can harm tree roots, sprinklers and hidden pipes or wires under the lawn. Aerify! is completely safe to use over all lawn areas. And because it penetrates deeper, it will help trees too. Aerating machines are only used in the spring and fall when conditions are just right. Aerify! can be used any time of the year.
Aerating machines leave messy plugs on top of the lawn. Aerify! leaves no mess at all.
Aerating machines are heavy and can be hard for the homeowner to use. Aerify! can be applied easily with a hose-end sprayer.
Renting aerating machines or hiring a service to core aerate your lawn can be expensive. Aerify! is economically priced and most homeowners will get multiple uses from just one bottle.
Field notes: The manufacturer has been professionally servicing home lawns for over 25 years. We were one of the first companies to offer core aeration for home lawns. But we eventually learned that Core Aeration did not really do much to aerate or change the soil where it was really needed - deep in the root zone. We spent over 10 years trying out various liquid aerating or soil conditioning products, mostly biological in nature, that claimed to be able to loosen clay soil. When we saw the results we were getting with Aerify!, we knew we finally had something that worked on all soil types. Today we use Aerify as the main ingredient in our Liquid Aeration applications. As an extra bonus to our customers, we often add Nature’s Soil Activator to the Aerify! This speeds up bioactivation of the soil and stimulates root and leaf development.

"Our greens were so compacted that we were seriously considering full replacement in 2005. We needed a hammer to get a soil probe down 4". Core and deep tine aeration were not helping anymore. We started applying Aerify regularly to two test greens in September 2004. The soil improvement in 2 months was so dramatic and evident that we began putting it on all the greens before winter hit. I believe that Aerify has not only helped prevent the need for green replacement, it is also going to save us thousands of dollars in future aeration costs."

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I mix Aerify! with my liquid fertilizer applications?
Yes, in most cases. Just be sure to perform a jar test to ensure compatibility, and always make sure Aerify! is the last product you add to the tank to keep it 100% efficient and precent foaming. You can use a defoaming agent if desired.
- What are the rates for commercial applications?
If you plan to do regular applications throughout the season on home lawns, greens, beds or gardens, we suggest the normal homeowner rate of 1 oz per 1000 sf. If you are only doing a one-time application we suggest you double the rate to 2 oz per 1000 sf. For regular applications on larger areas, such as fairways, playing fields and commercial properties, use 1/2 -3/4 oz. per 1000sf, or 4-5 acres per gallon. Again, double the rate if you only plan to do one application. All applications should be watered in within a few days to get the Aerify down into the root zone and to prevent evaporation. The sooner the better.
For agricultural use, apply at 1 gallon per 10 acres directly on the soil, spring and fall. Fall applications will help fields dry and warm up faster in the spring. If sprayed over crops be sure to irrigate (or do before a rain) so the Aerify! can reach the soil. Use at 1/10th rate whenever soil crusting is a problem. Aerify will make plowing or tillage much easier and will save on fuel costs.
- Is Aerify! safe to use?
|
"The Aerify plus Nature's Soil Activator combination worked great on my lawn and garden. I had my best roses ever."
J. Vianni Freehold, NJ
|
|
Yes. Aerify! is a safe, environmentally friendly product. It is safe to use around animal, pets and people. However, you should avoid skin or eye contact due to possible irritation. Rinse or flush with water if necessary. Aerify! is also safe for beneficial soil organisms. It helps turn a dead soil into a living soil. Earthworms, nature's best aerators, love Aerify! If sprayed on fruits or vegetables, we recommend washing before eating.
- Does Aerify! cause soils to dry out too quickly?
No. Aerify! works to create a more granulated, better structured soil with more humus in it. The soil will be more sponge-like and will actually reduce water needs over time. Additionally, roots will be able to dig in deeper to reach moister subsoil. Aerify! will help water move upwards in the soil through capillary action. This movement will carry water and nutrients to the roots.
- When is the best time of the year to apply Aerify!?
|
"In less than a year of using Aerify, my heavy clay soil has changed its structure a lot. Roots of the grass go down very, very deep and all my shrubs and trees are thriving."
E. Alexander Raliegh, NC

Aerify! can be applied any time of the year, as long as the ground isn't frozen. The sooner you get it into the soil, the sooner you'll realize the benefits. The most common application times are early to mid-spring and mid-fall. Summer applications are completely safe and good to do as long as they can be watered in deeply. Lawn companies and greenskeepers can add Aerify! to each liquid fertilizing if desired. It can also be used safely with drip or microjet systems.
For severe compaction, do a follow up application of Aerify! 1 to 2 weeks after your initial application. For new seeding, apply before or when seeding is done. It will aid germination.
- Why should I use Aerify! instead of my core aeration machine?
|
"It gets very wet around here and my clay soil seems to maintain good tilth with Aerify. Before, it would get very sticky and never dry out."
M.Peers Seattle, WA

Look over the comparison in the previous page and you'll see why. And, if you're in business, think of the stress you will avoid by using Aerify!. You won't have to worry about repairing the sprinkler, underground wires, or vent cap that you may break using a machine. You won't have a mess on the sidewalk or call backs due to a missed spot. You won't have to repair aerator tines because you won't be hitting rocks, or metal pipes any more. You can do Aerify! applications any time during the growing season in any type of weather, no matter how dry or soggy the soil.
- How does Aerify! really work?
Clay particles are microscopic mineral pieces that stick together very tightly. The bonds that hold the clay particles together contain water. Aerify! gets that water to release from the clay and then leach out. The result is a separation (flocculation) of the clay, and space for water and air movement, and root penetration too.
Aerify! will also generate beneficial microbes that are vital in order to form soil structure and build humus. This can take weeks or months to grow to necessary levels. It mostly depends on the density of your clay type and whether there is organic matter in the soil to feed the microbes. To optimize soil improvement and the development of beneficial biolife in your aerated soil, we recommend using organic fertilizers as well as liquid soil activators.
Some buyers ask if Aerify is just a very strong non-ionic surfactant or wetting agent. The answer is a definite NO. What we have done is taken a product normally used as a surfactant, modified it in our manufacturing process and added proprietary ingredients. The result is that Aerify is IONIZED so it attaches to and works on the actual soil particles instead of simply working on the soil water. This makes Aerify a true Soil conditioner instead of a water treatment.
- Is Aerify! safe to use with new seed?
Yes. Aerify! is safe to use before, during or after seeding. It will help the sprouting grass to root faster and deeper.
Aerify! is available all common commercial sized containers. Contact our office for price quotes and shipping charges.
